The South Atlantic Conference football media day is July 21 at the Holiday Inn in Salisbury, N.C. Media outlets wishing to attend should fill out the registration form and return back to the South Atlantic Conference office.

Jun 20 -- Mars Hill's Walt Baxley, Catawba's Paige Haverty named 2005-06 SAC Athletes of the Year
 ROCK HILL, SC – Mars Hill College’s Walt Baxley, an All-American basketball player who was second in the nation in scoring, and Catawba College golf standout Paige Haverty have been named the 2005-06 South Atlantic Conference Male and Female Athletes of the Year following a vote of the league’s Directors of Athletics, the conference office announced today.

volleyball player Rebecca Brezovec from Wingate University and
senior mens tennis player Hector Rincon from Presbyterian
College have been named the 2005-06 South Atlantic Conference
Presidents Award recipients. The SAC Presidents Award is considered
one of the most prestigious awards the conference awards to its
student-athletes.

Carson-Newman athletic director David Barger announced on Monday
that Michael Baur has been named the new Sports Information Director
for the college.

Runners Named to Cross Country Academic All-District First Team in
Cross Country
Seven
runners representing South Atlantic Conference schools have been
named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
first team track & field/cross country teams. Rachel Retallick
of Mars Hill is a three-time honoree and has a 3.95 GPA as a biology
and chemistry major with a minor in Pre-Med. This release provides

Player King Recognized As 2005-06 "Peach of an Athlete"
Former Carson-Newman Eagles quarterback Joey King recently was
awarded the Peach of An Athlete award by the Atlanta
Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and given to
student-athletes from Georgia or who attend a college or
university in Georgia. Honorees are those who excel in athletics,
academics and community service and who serve as a positive role
model for todays young people.

Commissioners Honor Roll Announced
The 2005-06 South Atlantic Conference Commissioners Honor
Roll has been announced, with 675 student-athletes recognized for
their achievements in the classroom. The SAC Commissioners
Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who carry at least a
3.20 cumulative grade point average and have completed the season
in the sports sponsored by the conference.

Stotser Named Baseball All-Americans
 Catawba
College senior catcher Matt Smith has been named a second team
All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Also,
Tusculum College shortstop Greg Stotser was named to the third team.

Presbyterian College women's tennis player Lauren Brown has been
named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

Carson-Newman junior outfielder Brandon Burchfield has been named a
second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American for
baseball. Burchfield has a 4.0 grade point average in Business

Baseball Team
Ten baseball players from the South Atlantic Conference, including
six from conference and tournament champion Catawba College, team
were named to the 2006 ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region team as
selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Dwivedi Named to 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District Teams
Presbyterian
College mens tennis players Hector Rincon and Kshitij Dwivedi
have been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District men's at-large teams. Rincon carries a cumulative GPA
of 3.86 while double majoring in mathematics and business
administration with a concentration in economics. Dwivedi has a
cumulative GPA of 3.81 while double majoring in mathematics and
computer science.
