Tusculum finishes the season at 17-2-2, while Presbyterian ends it season at 11-6-1. Tusculum must now wait and see if it will be extended a bid into the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament. Both Murphy and Presbyterian keeper Lara Johnson kept their teams in a close match by making several key saves. It was 18:36 into the match when Franmarie Gregg fed Rachel Barron in the PC penalty box for a 1-0 Pioneer lead. The score would remain that way until half time. Then, 56:42 into the game, PC's Delisa Smith scored an unassisted goal for the Blue Hose off a lose ball in the TC box. Both teams traded opportunities throughout the remainder of regulation and through all 60 minutes of extra time. In the penalty shoot out, Murphy again made the critical save of the game by parrying Jocelyn Darrow's attempt wide right of the goal, sealing the Pioneer's title, and ending the longest match in South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament history. This is the second straight year that the Pioneer Women's Soccer team has won both the regular season and tournament titles. The announcement for the selections into the NCAA Regional tournaments will be made on Monday. |
