Wingate Claims SAC Women's Golf Championship

NEWBERRY, SC – Wingate University claimed its first South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship, posting a three-round score of 981 to win the title by 26 shots over Catawba. The tournament was held at the 5,815-yard, par-72 Newberry Country Club in conjunction with the SAC Spring Sports Festival at Newberry and Presbyterian Colleges.

Daniela Kessler shot three rounds of 79, finishing fourth, while Chris Mechereffe placed third on 236 to lead the Bulldogs. Both earned all-tournament honors along with Lenoir-Rhyne’s Meghan Jolly, Catawba’s Kristen Kyle and medalist Aubrey Mosley, of Newberry. Mosley had a total of 233 to nip Kyle by a single shot.

Catawba earned its highest finish in the tournament’s three years with a second place. Kyle led the Lady Indians as she bettered her own school record by two shots with a 76 in the final round. Lenoir-Rhyne was third, a shot behind Catawba, while Tusculum finished one shot behind Lenoir-Rhyne in fourth.
