ROCK HILL, SC – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles are the 2003 regular season softball champions and clinched the top seed for the Food Lion SAC Softball Tournament.

Because of a rain-forced cancellation against league-rival Lenoir-Rhyne, the Lady Eagles finished the season with a 10-2 conference record and a .833 winning percentage. The Lady Eagles are led by last year’s Player of the Year, pitcher Marci Mitchell, and freshman pitching sensation Megan Elliott. They will open tournament play against Newberry on Thursday at 11 am.

Wingate finished in second place with an 11-3 record and a .786 winning percentage. The Bulldogs ended the regular season by sweeping Mars Hill on Tuesday and enter the tournament on a 14-game winning streak. The Bulldogs are led by pitcher Katie Wallace, and first baseman Stephanie White. Wingate will face seventh-seed Tusculum at 1 pm.

Lenoir-Rhyne, the two-time defending tournament champion, is the third seed. The Bears, 9-3 in the regular season, are led by pitcher Audrey Kreske and outfielder Misty Bingham. L-R faces sixth-seed Catawba at 1 pm. Lenoir-Rhyne swept a double-header against the Indians to end the regular season on Tuesday.

Host Presbyterian is the fourth seed and will face fifth-seed Mars Hill at 11 am. The Blue Hose are led by second baseman Amanda Teal and first baseman Beth Rocker, while Mars Hill is led by catcher Tessa Ashwell and third baseman Audrey Riffel.

Loser bracket games will be played at 3 pm on Thursday.

Play continues on Friday. The championship game is set for 2 pm on Saturday, with a second game, if necessary, following at 4 pm.
