Carson-Newman Takes Lead After Day One |

ROCK HILL, SC - With two golfers in the top four, Carson-Newman has built a 10- stroke lead after day one the 2004 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship Tuesday at the Regent Park Golf Club in Fort Mill, S.C. The Eagles shot a 585 (+17) on the par-71, 6735-yard course while Catawba sits in second place after finishing the first two rounds with a 595 (+27). Presbyterian (596, +28) is one stroke behind the Indians in third followed by Tusculum (597, +29) and Lenoir-Rhyne (608, +40). Individually, Carson-Newman senior Matthew Cram-Smith (Perth, Australia) is currently first after 36 holes, shooting even par (142). PC senior Patrick Mitchell (Beaufort, S.C.) is second with a 143 (+1) for the day and was the only golfer to finish a round under par (69 in the second). Rounding out the top five includes Catawba sophomore Richard Lowe (Johnson City, Tenn.), Carson-Newman sophomore Tanner Davis (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Catawba junior Steven Harvey (Salisbury, N.C.) with scores of 144, 145 and 146, respectively.
