Fourth-seeded Wingate University (18-12) won their first league tournament championship in six years as the Bulldogs defeated No. 2 Presbyterian (24-9), 61-50, in the championship game of the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament held Sunday afternoon at the Catawba Valley Community College.

When you win the league title and return all of your starters, big things are expected of you. That is the position the Catawba Indians find themselves in heading into the 2005-06 men’s basketball season, as they are the unanimous choice to repeat as league champions. Presbyterian was an overwhelming choice for second, with Tusculum squeaking in at No. 3. Preseason picks for the all-conference teams are included in this release.

Tusculum College captured their first Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament title with today's 79-73 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne College in the championship game of the 2005 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament held Sunday afternoon at the Catawba Valley Community Center. The Pioneers were led in scoring by Donald Sexton, the 2005 SAC Tournament MVP.

The Catawba College men’s basketball team clinched its first South Atlantic Conference regular season title since the 2000-01 season with a 78-66 victory over Wingate University Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena on the Wingate campus.

Oct 27 -- Tusculum College Men Picked to Win 2004-05 SAC Basketball Race
No drop off is expected for the Tusculum Pioneers or the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. The two teams shared the men’s basketball championship last season and both teams return plenty of talent and are expected to challenge for another crown. The Pioneers are the favorite to win the 2004-05 championship, according to a vote of the league’s eight coaches.
