2005 All-Conference Teams; Players, Coach of the Year

Players-of-the-Week

The South Atlantic Conference has announced its Football Players of the Week. Earning honors for the week ending on November 5 are Presbyterian quarterback Zach Ellis, Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Jamal Jackson and Tusculum punter Austin Hunter. Ellis was named Offensive Player of the Week, Jackson Defensive Player of the Week and Hunter was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week.

The SAC Players of the Week are determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the conference schools.

Ellis, a 6-1, 192-pound senior from Tifton, Ga., earns this honor for a third straight week and fourth time this season. The Tift County High School graduate led the Blue Hose to a 38-7 victory over Newberry as PC regained the Bronze Derby and finished the SAC regular season with a perfect 7-0 mark. Ellis completed 27-of-39 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over the Indians. He completed 69.2 percent of his passes against Newberry and registered a 157.51 pass efficiency rating.

Jackson, a 5-10, 245-pound senior from Aurora, Colo., was key defensively for Lenoir-Rhyne in a 17-13 road win over Catawba. Jackson finished the game with seven tackles with five of those coming for a loss as well as two pass break-ups and a sack. Jackson led a L-R defense that limited Catawba to just 60 yards rushing on the afternoon.

Hunter, a 6-4, 220-pound senior from Hartford, Tenn. averaged 41.4 yards per punt as Tusculum defeated Mars Hill 43-28. Hunter punted seven times for 290 yards including a long of 56. Two of his punts went over 50 yards, while four his boots were inside the 20-yard line, including three inside the 10-yard line. The Hartford, Tenn. Native also established school single-season records with 76 punting attempts for 2,923 yards.
