LAKELAND, Fla. --- Everett Jones' two-run double in the seventh helped power No. 2 Florida Southern College to an 8-5 win over Tusculum College in the NCAA Division II South Regional at Henley Field Thursday night.

Jones' double put the Moccasins ahead 6-5, then Matt Mercurio belted a two-run homer in the eighth to provide a pair of insurance runs. The win improves FSC's record to 43-11.

Gabe Rio worked out of a bases-loaded situation in the eighth, then pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save and preserve the win for Jason Mack, who improved to 4-1.

TC out-hit Florida Southern 11-9 with junior Guy O'Connell (Perth, Australia) going a perfect 4-for-4 while sophomore designated hitter George Hanger (Stauton, Va.) collected three hits and three RBI. Junior shortstop Robbie Bouman (Sterling, Va.) had two hits and scored two runs.

The Moccasins meet arch-rival Tampa Friday at 3 p.m. Tusculum (33-20) and Presbyterian play an elimination game at 11 a.m. Friday, with the winner advancing to Friday night's 7 p.m. game against the Tampa-Florida Southern loser.
