MARS HILL, NC -- Brian Gordner has been named the new head men's golf coach at Mars Hill College, institution officials announced today. Mars Hill is a NCAA Division II college and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Brian has an impressive resume. He comes to Mars Hill after being the top assistant teaching professional at Ibis Golf and Country Club in West Palm Beach, FL for the past five years (1998-2003). At Ibis he was mentored by and worked alongside Martin Hall, one of Golf Magazine's Top 50 instructors in America. He averaged 750 hours per year in individual golf instruction and was the short game instructor for the Martin Hall golf schools. Gordner was also the director of tournaments for the Nine Hole Women's Golf Association.

Prior to working at Ibis, Gordner was the Assistant Golf Professional at the Country Club of Asheville (NC) from 1996-98. There he assisted on all member-affiliated tournaments, developed an eight week junior golf summer camp program and conducted individual instruction and junior clinics. Gordner was an Assistant Golf Professional at Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa in Asheville from 1994-96. His duties included directing tournament operations for all corporate golf outings, junior golf instruction, and corporate golf clinics.

As a player, Gordner has competed in the Austrian Pro-Am, Low Professional (2001); South Florida Section Championship (2000); Club Pro Championship Qualifier (1999 & 2000); North Carolina Open (1996); and Washington State Amateur Championship (1991-93).

Gordner graduated from the Golf Professional Training Program and was elected a Class “A” Professional in March of 1998. He is also certified as a Ben Hogan and Titleist club fitter.

Mars Hill College Athletic Director David Riggins stated, "Brian is a great addition to the Mars Hill family. His teaching background will be a tremendous asset to our collegiate golfers. That combined with his background as a competing professional gives him great credibility in the golfing community."
