Blue Hose Softball Makes First Appearance in NCAA South Atlantic Regional

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's softball team will be the No. 4 seed at this week's NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional Tournament announced today. The No. 1-ranked Kennesaw State Owls will be hosting the 2004 South Atlantic Regional Tournament on May 6-9, 2004 at Bobbie Bailey Complex.

The six-team, double-elimination tournament will begin on Thursday afternoon and will continue throughout the weekend with the winner advancing to the 2004 Division II Women's Softball Championships in Orlando, Florida.

The Blue Hose (44-11) earned the bid after winning the program's first Food Lion/South Atlantic Conference Tournament title back on April 24 earning the league's automatic bid to postseason. The postseason appearance is the first for the Blue Hose softball program. PC has already set single-season records for wins (44) and in winning the SAC Tournament title.

Kennesaw State, the number one-seed in the region, is joined by Peach Belt Conference rivals Armstrong Atlantic (No. 2-seed), North Florida (No. 3-seed) and the fifth-seed USC Spartanburg. Belmont Abbey (No. 6-seed) and Presbyterian (No.4-seed) round out the field.

The tournament begins on Thursday morning with Presbyterian College (44-11)playing USC Spartanburg (37-14) at 11:00 a.m. North Florida (45-11) and Belmont-Abbey (31-24) conclude the day session with a 1:30 p.m. game. The Owls (61-4) play for the first time at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday when they play the winner of PC and USCS. Armstrong Atlantic (41-7) will then battle the winner of the UNF and BAC game at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament features three teams ranked in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Top Twenty-Five Poll. Kennesaw State is the nation's top ranked team, the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic are ranked No. 8 while the Ospreys of North Florida are ranked No. 11.
