CLINTON, S.C. - The June edition of Fox Sports Net's college sports magazine program NCAA ON CAMPUS has a heavy Southern flavor. Patrick O'Neal and Sage Steele host the 30-minute show, which airs Tuesday, 6/15 at 3:30 p.m. EDT, and re-airs on Sunday, 6/20 at 4:30 p.m. The June show celebrates college student-athletes who have persevered through four years of school and earned their degrees in May. Three of the four ON CAMPUS stories have a Southern ring including senior third baseman Curtis Bell from Presbyterian College. Curtis Bell Emily Miller was playing soccer for Tennessee-Martin, when in the spring of 2003, she was diagnosed with cancer in her left femur. The disease was caught early, but surgery left her with loss of bone, muscle, nerves and tendons in her leg. She later had prosthesis implanted in her knee, she learned to walk again, and she is active in her community as a spokesperson for the hospital where she underwent surgery. Chris Duhon graduated from Duke last month and is now preparing for June's National Basketball Association Draft. Some say he could have bolted to the NBA early in his college career, but instead he decided to stay the course and earn his degree. His combination of exceptional athletic skill and academic prowess paints the true picture of the "student-athlete" moniker. He discusses his decision, and Duke assistant coach Johnny Dawkins weighs on Duhon's accomplishments. |
