Food Drive |
Courtesy Wingate University Sports Information Office Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) concluded a campus-wide canned food drive last night (Monday, Nov. 22). The Wingate SAAC solicited athletic teams and campus organizations to donate canned food. Over 1000 cans were donated by various athletic teams and campus organizations. The athletic team or campus organization that donates the most food per group member receives $100. The winner will be announced at an upcoming Wingate basketball game. All canned food will be donated to Loaves & Fishes in Monroe (116 S. Church Street, Monroe, NC 28112). For more information about the Wingate University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, please contact Liz Biggerstaff at 704-233-8382. The Wingate SAAC has worked hard to increase its visibility both on and off campus. The Wingate SAAC teamed with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to create awareness and raise funds at a home football game during the 2003 season. Wingate University has had two representatives on the NCAA Division II national SAAC. Most recently, men's tennis student-athlete Marius Dan ('04) was a member of the NCAA Division II national SAAC for two years. Men's basketball student-athlete Brandon Harris ('00) also served a two-year term on the NCAA Division II national SAAC. Both Dan and Harris attended meetings and seminars throughout the USA, representing the South Atlantic Conference and Wingate University on this national committee. |
