Jefferson City, Tenn.----Wingate University junior center Veronica Taylor (Columbia, S.C.) scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to a 51-50 victory over Carson-Newman College Saturday night in Holt Fieldhouse on the Carson-Newman campus. Taylor was the only Bulldog player to reach double figures tonight. With the win, Wingate (18-9, 11-3 SAC) earns its eighth South Atlantic Conference regular season title and the number one seed in next weeks Food Lion SAC tournament. The Bulldogs will host number eight seed Tusculum College (8-20 overall, 2-12 SAC) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Cuddy Arena. Carson-Newman falls to 20-7 overall and 10-4 in the SAC. The Eagles were 12-0 at home this season prior to tonights loss. Carson-Newman freshman forward Brooke Johnson (Seymour, Tenn.) led the Eagles with 19 points. Carson-Newman junior guard Giovanni Booker (Orlando, Fla.) contributed 12 points. The number two seed Carson-Newman Eagles will host number seven seed Presbyterian Wednesday night.
