Parker is one of 90 Division II student-athletes nation-wide who were selected to receive the honor. Parker has a 3.04 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in Child and Family Studies at C-N. She was a member of the Lady Eagles Basketball team for the past two seasons after transferring to Carson-Newman from Walters State Community College. This is the second time in as many years that a member of the Carson-Newman womens basketball team has received the Degree-Completion award. Monica Ashburn received the NCAA honor last year. The NCAA Degree-Completion Award pays for the final year of the student-athletes education once he or she has exhausted their eligibility. The recipient must be within 32 hours of graduation and the award is based on athletic achievement, grade point average and community and campus activities. The award winners are determined by a 10-member board of Division II administrators throughout the United States. I am proud of Chanda because she has put in a great deal of hard work both on and off the court. This is an honor that she is very much worthy of, C-N head coach Dean Walsh said. Parker helped lead the Lady Eagles to the South Atlantic Conference championship last season, a 25-8 overall record and the NCAA Division II Sweet 16. |
