Presbyterian Clinches SAC Regular Season Volleyball Title

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College volleyball team had six of seven players register double figure digs as the Lady Blue Hose defeated Wingate University three games to two in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action on Saturday afternoon in the Ross E. Templeton Center. PC outlasted the Bulldogs 30-24, 21-30, 29-31, 30-28, 15-12.

With the victory, the Lady Blue Hose (27-4 overall, 13-0 SAC) clinched the SAC regular season title for the third straight year. PC will be the top seed in the 2005 Food Lion/SAC Tournament that will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College on November 12-13. With the loss, Wingate fell to 21-4 overall and 10-3 in the league.

The Lady Blue Hose's senior outside hitter Erin Friday (Summerville, S.C.) had an impressive Senior Day as Friday tallied a match-high 24 kills along with 14 digs. Senior middle blocker Jasmin Brown (Alpharetta, Ga.) contributed 22 kills on the day as Brown moved into the No. 4 spot on PC's all-time career kill list. She now has 1,682 career kills and surpassed 1997 SAC Player of the Year, Beth Mann, who tallied 1,669 kills in her career.

Fellow senior Allyn Beam (Charleston, S.C.) added a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs in the win. Freshman libero Malorey Grove (Albany, Ind.) led the seven PC players that had 11 or more digs as Grove notched a match-high 19, while freshman setter Rachel Lewis (Bloomington, Ill.) dished out 55 assists and racked up 14 digs.

Four Wingate players recorded double digit kills as junior middle blocker Rebecca Brezovec (Durham, N.C.) led the way for the Bulldog offense with 22 kills as well as seven block assists. Sophomore setter Melissa Deluca (Bahama, N.C.) collected 60 assists, while junior middle blocker Molly Kerns (Bellefontaine, Ohio) had 11 kills and 12 block assists. Both Kerns and Brezovec had one block solo and seven block assists each. Defensively, sophomore libero Amanda Siegrist (Wexford, Pa.) had 14 digs and as a team, Wingate connected on 24 total blocks.

The Lady Blue Hose will host UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, November 1 for a non-conference match at 7:00 in the Templeton Center, while Wingate travels to Catawba College on November 2 for a SAC match at 7:00.
