Presbyterian College Selected As Top Seed in Southeast Region of NCAA Division II Football Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - Presbyterian College has been selected as the top seed in the Southeast region of the 2005 NCAA Division II Football Championship, announced today by the NCAA Division II Football Committee. The 24-team field was announced this afternoon with the Blue Hose (10-1) earning their first NCAA Division II playoff appearance in program history and the top spot in the Southeast Region.

PC will receive a bye in the first round and will open the playoffs on Saturday, November 19 at home versus the winner of the University of Central Arkansas (9-2)/Albany State University (8-1) game which takes place next Saturday, November 12. Kickoff is set for 12 noon in PC's first playoff game.

The Blue Hose are the 2005 South Atlantic Conference champions after compiling a perfect 7-0 mark in league play. PC, ranked No. 9 in last week's AFCA NCAA Division II Top 25, has won seven straight this season and are tied with the 1979 team for the best start in program history.

North Carolina Central University (10-1) earned the other bye in the Southeast Region as the No. 2 seed and will await the winner of the University of North Alabama (8-2)/Valdosta State University (9-2) winner on November 19.

1st Round Games - November 12

University of Central Arkansas (9-2) vs. *Albany State University (Georgia) (8-1) - Albany, Ga.
University of North Alabama (8-2) vs. *Valdosta State University (9-2) - Valdosta, Ga.
2nd Round Games - November 19
UCA/ASU Winner plays *Presbyterian College (10-1) - Clinton, S.C.
UNA/VSU Winner plays *North Carolina Central University (10-1) - Durham, N.C.

Second-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals at various campus sites on November 26. Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of one of the competing institutions on December 3. Six teams selected per region make up the field of 24 teams.

All contests shall start at noon local time. Other times may be established if approved by the committee. The championship game will be played December 10, at 3 p.m. Central time at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Alabama and will be broadcast live on ESPN. The 2005 championship will mark 20 consecutive years that the Division II championship game has been played in Florence.
