Mars Hill, Carson-Newman Run in NCAA National

CHINO, CA - Mars Hill's Cross Country teams competed in the NCAA National Championships this afternoon at Prado Park in Chino, CA. The men placed 18th in a field of 24 teams and the women finished in 22nd place, also in a field of 24. The Carson-Newman women's team finished 24th. The event was hosted by California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. In the men's race, Daniel Amick (Swansea, SC) led MHC in 68th place with a time of 33:52.9 in the 10K event. James Thompson (Demorest, GA) followed in 89th place (34:20.7) while the SAC Scholar Athlete Jon Stoehr (Antigo, WI) placed 101st (34:46.9). Dustin Whitlow (Gainesville, VA) was 112th (35:07.1) and David Jaeger (Winfield, IL) placed 133rd (35:40.0). John Halter (Mansfield, OH) finished in 159th place (37:34.7) and Tyler Wilkinson (Blowing Rock, NC) was 161st (37:41.1) to round out the runners for MHC. In the women's race, Kate Prichard (Clemson, SC) led MHC in 63rd place (23:28.8) in the 6K race. Rachel Retallick (Crewe, VA) the 2005 SAC Scholar Athlete was second for the Lions in 72nd place (23:38.5) followed by Erin McKee (Morganton, NC) in 154th place (25:26.1), Ashley McCauley (Greenville, SC) in 161st place (25:45.3), Elizabeth Head (Monroe, GA) in 168th place (26:17.0), Keely Hollahan in 171st place (26:25.8) and Jaime Kuehl (Downingtown, PA) in 178th place (29:09.8). The Lions' men's team won the SAC and NCAA Southeast Regional Titles en route to today's event. The Lions' women's squad finished second in the SAC Championships and the won the Southeast Regional Title. The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles cross country team finished 24th at the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships which were held Saturday afternoon. Aubrey Morris had the best finish for the Lady Eagles as she finished 102nd with a time of 24:14. Other C-N finishers included Margaux Cowan-Banker (142nd/25:06), Vanessa Gibson (150th/25:17), Lisa Massey (162nd/25:48), Tori Stanfield (177th/27:59), Ellie Leggett (179th/29:12) and Heather Godwin (180th/30:45). Ryan Althaus was running as an individual and placed 79th with a time of 34:09. |
