Twelve SAC Football Players Selected to East
Coast Bowl |

PETERSBURG, Va. - The East Coast Bowl Committee has announced rosters for this year's East Coast Bowl, and the South Team will have a heavy South Atlantic Conference flavor with 12 players selected, more than any other conference. The 5th Annual East Coast Bowl will be played in Petersburg, Virginia on Saturday, November 26th with kick-off scheduled for 12 Noon. The South Atlantic Conference representatives include five First Team All-Conference players, as well as two Second Team selections. Only seniors are eligible to be selected. Newberry College had four players make the All-Star squad. Representing Newberry on the defensive side of the ball are linebacker Terrance Leverett (Ware Shoals, S.C.) and defensive tackle James Canetti (Los Angeles, Calif.). A pair of linemen will wear the spear-adorned white helmets: center Zack Farr (Spartanburg, S.C.) and tight end Daren Vaughn (Belton, S.C.). Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate and Catawba each had two players make the list. The Eagles will be represented by linebacker Anthony Robinson, the SACs Defensive Player of the Year, as well as defensive back Deonte Bolden. Lenoir-Rhyne is represented by wide receiver Christopher Winford and defensive back Jermey Brown. Catawba wide receiver Corey Ready and offensive lineman Derek Milligan were selected, as well as Wingate linebacker Allen Smith and offensive lineman Kevin Canty. The roster for this year's event is jammed full of Division II and III All-Americans, Harlon Hill Candidates (Division II Player of Year), and several conference players of the year. Due to expanding geographically, players from Virginia schools will be playing on the North team. East Coast Bowl Vice-president Jeremy Toombs stated, "We received an influx of nominations from several schools in the Gulf South so to balance the amount of nominations the ideal move was to include Virginia on the North for the first time. The amount of interest for this game has skyrocketed. We received almost 200 nominations from about 60 schools in 22 different states." This year's game will feature, for the first time, some Division I-AA athletes. The NFL Scouting Combine personnel, NFL Scouts, Canadian Football League and arena league representatives are in attendance each year. Over 40 former East Coast Bowl players have played or are playing in the professional ranks. Coaches from the Richmond Bandits, of the Atlantic Indoor Football League, will be serving as coaches of this year's event. Tickets for the game are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. Anyone may purchase tickets in advance at Ettrick Deli or Nino's North Italian Restaurant. For ticketing information you may call the East Coast Bowl Headquarters at (804) 722-0141, Ettrick Deli at (804) 526-3354 or Nino's North Italian Restaurant at (804) 861-3410 or visit the bowl Website.
