Carson-Newman Takes Early Lead for South
Atlantic Conference Athletic Excellence Award |

Complete Results in PDF Format ROCK HILL, SC Carson-Newman College, which saw its two-year hold on the South Atlantic Conference Athletic Excellence Award end last year, has the lead to reclaim the trophy after the conclusion of the fall sports. Carson-Newman picked up 40 points in the six fall sports. The Eagles were champions in mens soccer and womens cross country. They also finished second in football and womens soccer. Presbyterian College, a four-time winner of the award, is in second place with 29 points. The Blue Hose won the football and volleyball titles. Lenoir-Rhyne College and Wingate University are third for third with 28 points each. The Bears finished second in mens cross country and finished in the top four in four of the other five fall sports. The Bulldogs were second in volleyball and third in both mens and womens cross country. Mars Hill College stands in fifth place with 26 points. The Lions won the mens cross country title. Catawba College, the defending champion, is in sixth with 24.5 points. The Indians were the champions in womens soccer. Tusculum College stands in seventh place after the fall season with 21.5 points. The Pioneers finished third in both mens and womens soccer. Newberry rounds out the fall standings with 18 points. The Indians finished in third place in the football standings. The SAC Athletic Excellence Award is presented annually to the member athletic department that earns the highest overall finish based on final regular season standings. Points are based on final tournament standings in the sports of mens cross country, womens cross country, mens golf and womens golf. The trophy is presented at the SAC Annual Business Meeting at the conclusion of each year. |
