Miami Shores, Fla.----Wingate University junior guard Tanetra Barrett (Marshville, N.C.) has been named to the 2006 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball All-America first team, selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Fifteen student-athletes (five per team on three teams) were named All-America.

The 2006 South Atlantic Region Player of the Year, Barrett helped the Bulldogs (25-7 overall) advance to the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional finals this season. Wingate has advanced to post-season play during two of Barrett’s three seasons. In addition to her regional and national honors, Barrett was named the SAC Player of the Year and a first team all-SAC pick as Wingate won the 2006 SAC regular season title.

This season, Barrett led the SAC in scoring at 19.8 points per game. In addition, she had the top field goal percentage in the league at 53.2. Barrett also ranked among the SAC leaders in free throw percentage, rebounding, assists and steals. Barrett is 17th in the NCAA Division II in scoring and 45th in individual field goal percentage.

Among Barrett’s 2005-06 season highlights were two double-doubles (points, rebounds). She had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to an 85-76 SAC road win over Mars Hill January 21. In the regional championship game versus Shaw, Barrett contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Barrett recorded her season-high (and career-high tying) 29 points on two occasions this year: versus Johnson C. Smith (Nov. 19) and versus Presbyterian (March 1). The Forest Hills High School graduate tallied 20+ points in 11 of Wingate’s 14 SAC games and 17 of 32 total games this season. Barrett has scored in double figures in 32 consecutive contests.

Jennifer Harris of the top-ranked Washburn University Blues was tabbed as the Player of the Year on the 2006 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-America team selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Harris leads the Blues and NCAA Division II in scoring at 24.2 points per game. She was named the player of the year in both the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the South Central Region. She was named on 97 percent of the national ballots. Washburn reached the finals of the South Central Region tournament before falling in overtime. The loss snapped an NCAA Division II record 51-game winning streak for the Blues.

Joining Barrett and Harris on the first team are Lisa Lee of the University of Charleston (W.Va.), Erika Quigley from St. Cloud State (Minn.) University and Nikki Reams of Grand Valley State (Mich.) University. Lee, Quigley and Reams all led their teams to the 2006 NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

Barrett was one of three student-athletes from schools in North and South Carolina to earn 2006 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-America honors. Anderson (S.C.) College junior guard Lashonda Chiles and Elizabeth City State University sophomore center Celeste Trahan were both named to the third team. Shaw University senior guard Nastassia Boucicault was one of five student-athletes named honorable mention All-America.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The company also markets DakStats® sports statistics software with programs for football, basketball and baseball available.
