Presbyterians Rincon Named SAC Mens

ROCK HILL, SC Presbyterian College senior Hector Rincon (London, England/Heathside Sixth Form), who went undefeated in conference play (5-0) and 11-5 overall at No. 1 singles, was named the South Atlantic Conference Mens Tennis Player of the Year for the second time in his career, the league announced today. Rincon also received the Mens Tennis Scholar Athlete Award, winning for the second year in a row. Presbyterian head coach Patric Hynes was named SAC Mens Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Hose to their sixth regular season title. He wins the award for the first time in his career. Newberrys Daryl Van Vuuren, a freshman from Durban, South Africa, was named Freshman of the Year. Van Vuuren went 2-4 in conference play at No. 1 singles for the Indians. Conference champion Presbyterian led the way with four All-Conference selections, including three on the First Team. Rincon has a 3.85 grade point average as a business administration and math major. He was the SAC Freshman of the Year in 2003 and the Player of the Year in 2004 and a four-time First Team All-Conference selection. In four years, he has not lost a singles match in conference play. He is a two-time ITA Academic All-American and has been on the Presbyterian Colleges Presidents List (4.0 GPA) for three semesters and Deans List (3.3 GPA) for four. He is the recipient of the Bailey Scholarship for outstanding achievement in the business department and the Whitelaw Scholarship for outstanding achievement in the math department. In the community, Rincon serves as a math tutor for middle and high school students and is a member of the Presbyterian College Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
