Presbyterians Brown Named SAC Womens

ROCK HILL, SC Presbyterian College junior Lauren Brown, who was undefeated in seven conference matches at No. 2 singles, was named the South Atlantic Conference Womens Tennis Player of the Year, the league announced today. Brown also received the Womens Tennis Scholar Athlete Award. Presbyterian head coach Bobby McKee was named Womens Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Hose to the league title, the schools tenth overall. He wins the award for the second consecutive year and fifth time overall. Presbyterians Abby Diminich was named Freshman of the Year after going 5-1 in conference singles play and teaming with Catherine Bankhead to go 5-1 at No. 1 doubles. Conference champion Presbyterian led the way with four All-Conference selections, including three on the First Team. Brown, a junior from Gaffney, S.C. (Gaffney HS), has a 3.85 GPA as a chemistry major. She is a three-time All-SAC selection and has helped lead the Blue Hose to the past two conference championships. Brown was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team, and is a member of the Sigma Kappa Alpha and Tri Beta honor societies. She is recognized as a campus and community leader, serving and chair of the Presbyterian College and SAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and is the conferences national representative. She is a volunteer with the Good Shepherd Organization and the Humane Society and helps with youth tennis clinics.
