ROCK HILL, SC - The 2005-06 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll was announced from the SAC office today, with 675 student-athletes recognized for their achievements in the classroom.

The SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have completed the season in the sports of football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf.

The 675 student-athletes represent 35 U.S. states, 22 foreign countries and five Canadian provinces. More than 24 percent (167) of the honorees held grade point averages of 3.75 or higher. Of those, 29 student-athletes carried a perfect 4.00 GPA.

The sport of football had the most honorees with 102, followed by women’s soccer with 87. They were followed by baseball (77), men’s soccer (60), softball (59) volleyball (51), women’s basketball (46), women’s cross country (43), women’s tennis (38), men’s tennis (27), men’s cross country and men’s golf with 26 each, women’s golf (21), and men’s basketball with 12.

Tusculum College led the way with 112 student-athletes recognized. Newberry College followed with 105, with Mars Hill College (102) also topping the century mark. Wingate University followed with 97. Presbyterian College had 71, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne College (68), Carson-Newman College (65) and Catawba College (55).
