JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. Carson-Newman athletic director David Barger announced on Monday that Michael Baur has been named the new Sports Information Director for the college.
Baur comes to C-N from Catholic University in Washington D.C. where he has served as the SID for 21 sports. Prior to his stint in the nations capital, Baur was an assistant at Winthrop University in South Carolina where he was the primary contact for the Eagles baseball and womens soccer teams while assisting with other sports including men and womens basketball and volleyball. Baur began his media career in Milledgeville, Ga. as the news/sports director at WMVG/WKZR Radio in 1998. In 2000, he served as a reporter for the South Carolina News Network and later as the producer/announcer for Primetime Sports, a popular sports talk show on WISW-AM in Columbia, S.C. Baur earned a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism in 1998 and a masters degree in mass communications in 2004 from the University of South Carolina. His wife Laura is originally from Knoxville. My wife and I are thrilled to be coming back south to East Tennessee and to be at Carson-Newman. We look forward to working with a great staff of professionals who are also brothers and sisters in Christ. Carson-Newman is a special place and it is somewhere we hope we can be for a very long time, Baur said. Baur, who will start at Carson-Newman in July, replaces Marlin Curnutt who resigned in April to pursue other higher education opportunities. Mike is a true professional and will be a wonderful addition to the Carson-Newman staff. I look forward to working with him to make sure the transition goes smoothly, Curnutt said. |
