Pairings Announced for Food Lion SAC Women's Soccer Tournament

ROCK HILL – Catawba College, which won the regular-season championship for the third time in school history, is the top seed for the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, which begins Tuesday with quarterfinal play.

The Lady Indians, 14-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference, are ranked eighth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas national poll. They will host eighth seed Presbyterian (1-5-1, 6-8-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Second seed Carson-Newman College will host Wingate University on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Lady Eagles went 6-1 in conference play and are 13-3 overall, while Wingate went 2-5 in the league and 11-8 overall.

Third seed Tusculum College hosts sixth-seed Mars Hill College at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers posted a 3-3-1 record in conference and are 9-5-2 overall.

The Newberry College women are the fourth seed (3-4, 7-6-2). They will host fifth seed Lenoir-Rhyne (3-4, 7-8-3) Tuesday at 2 pm. Newberry won the tiebreaker with Lenoir-Rhyne thanks to its 1-0 double-overtime win over Lenoir-Rhyne during the regular season.

The semifinals of the women’s tournament are scheduled for Friday at Newberry College. The winners of the Catawba/Presbyterian and Newberry/Lenoir-Rhyne matches face off at Noon. The other semifinal match is at 3 p.m. and will feature the winners of the Tusculum/Mars Hill and Carson-Newman/Wingate matches.

The women’s soccer championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
