Courtesies to host Sports Information Offices Tusculum 1, Carson-Newman 0 Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - Tusculum's Becky Carreiro (Mississauga, Ontario) put the Pioneers on top 89 seconds after intermission off Amanda Linville's (Cynthiana, Ky.) assist, and the lone goal was enough to overcome Carson-Newman, 1-0, for a berth in the 2005 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference women's soccer tournament finals. Tusculum (11-5-2, 3-3-1 SAC) will face fifth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the championship game. Carson-Newman's regular season ends at 14-4 and 6-1 in the conference with a chance at the NCAA playoffs. Pioneer goalkeeper Whitney Wardrop (Calgary, Alberta) stopped an incredible 18 shots on goal, while her counterpart, Nyssa Griffin (Adelaide, Australia) had four saves while allowing the game-winning goal. Carson-Newman launched 38 shots to Tusculum's eight, and mounted 13 corner kicks to the Pioneers' two.

Lenoir-Rhyne (9-8-3, 3-4 SAC) advances to play Tusculum College in tomorrow's championship game, which will commence at noon. Catawba's regular season ends at 15-3-1 and 6-0-1 in conference. From the right side, L-R's Cory Livesay (Round Hill, Va.) crossed into the box, where Upshaw knocked in the game-winning goal past Catawba keeper Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, N.C.). Balentine had two saves in the loss. Lenoir-Rhyne's Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif.) was impenetrable, facing 15 shots from Catawba and saving eight of them.
