Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Championship: Carson-Newman Wins Title, 1-0 Over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----The sixth-ranked Carson-Newman College Eagles men’s soccer team captured the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament championship with a 1-0 win over number 23 Catawba College Saturday afternoon at the Wingate University soccer facility.

The lone goal in the match came in the 35th minute when Dario Carrasco scored on a shot past the Indians goalkeeper on the right side.

Carson-Newman junior goalkeeper Tyler Baldock was named the MVP of the tournament. The 2004 and 2005 SAC Player of the Year, Baldock had three saves in the match.

The Eagles improve to 18-1-1 while the Indians fall to 14-5-1. Both teams were ranked in last week’s Appalachian Region poll and hope to advance to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. Pairings for the regional event will be announced early next week.
