Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship: Haverty, Catawba Lead After Day One

HICKORY, N.C. --- Four-time South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year Paige Haverty fired a two-round score of 151 to lead Catawba College to a first day lead at the 2006 Food Lion SAC Women's Golf Championship, held Monday at the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs.

Catawba posted rounds of 327 and 329 to shoot 656 and hold a 15-shot advantage over second place Newberry College (341-330=671).

Newberry was led by Eva Cormann, who fired 77-76=153 and is in second place, two shots behind Haverty.

Tusculum College is in third place with 680, followed by host Lenoir-Rhyne College (685), Wingate University (696) and Mars Hill College (771).

Lenoir-Rhyne's Stephanie Delgado and Melissa Kepley of Catawba are tied for third with 162, while Danielle Freed of Catawba is fifth with 164, playing as an individual.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
