Pairings Announced for 2006 Food Lion South

ROCK HILL, S.C. The Catawba Indians, ranked fourth in the last weeks Collegiate Baseball Division II national poll, are the top seed for the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament, which kicks off Thursday at Pioneer Park in Greeneville, TN. The Indians (17-4 SAC, 40-11) shared the league title with Tusculum for the second straight year, but earned the top seed by winning the series against the Pioneers. Catawba will face eighth seed Newberry (2-19, 9-40-1) in the Thursday nightcap game at 8:15 p.m. The tournament kicks off with fifth seed Lenoir-Rhyne (8-13, 23-26) meeting fourth seed Mars Hill (11-10, 29-25) at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Presbyterian College and Wingate University tied for sixth place in the league standings with 7-14 conference records. Presbyterian (7-14, 18-38) won the series against Wingate and will be the sixth seed and face third seed Carson-Newman (15-6, 32-18) at 12:45 p.m. Seventh seed Wingate (7-14, 16-36) meets second seed Tusculum (14-7, 35-12-1) at 4:30 p.m. Tournament play continues with two elimination games at Carson-Newman College and four more games at Tusculums Pioneer Park on Friday. Three more games are set for Saturday at Pioneer Park. The championship game will be played Sunday at Pioneer Park at 1 p.m., with a second game, if necessary, to follow. All-Tournament tickets will be available at the gate for $12 for adults and $6 for children and students. Daily ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children.
