CLINTON, S.C. - The top seeded Presbyterian College Lady Blue Hose advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championship with this morning's 5-0 victory over No. 8 seed Lenoir-Rhyne College at the Templeton Courts. With the victory, Presbyterian (16-3) moves on to face the host and No. 4 seed Carson-Newman College Eagles at 9:00 am on Saturday. Lenoir-Rhyne ends the season at 7-15.

The Lady Blue Hose jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after sweeping all three doubles flights. PC's All-SAC tandem of junior Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Tex.) and freshman Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) defeated L-R's freshmen duo of Jennifer Binney (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) and Kate Meiners (Monroe, N.C.) 8-1 at the top flight.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Brittany Lanford (Florence, S.C.) and All-SAC selection, junior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) picked up an 8-0 win over freshman Amanda Hunsucker (Conover, N.C.). At No. 3 doubles, SAC Player of the Year, junior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and sophomore Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) defeated L-R's junior Mary Hulet Kiterman (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Mary Alice Parlier (Statesville, N.C.) 8-0.

In singles, Lanford defeated Hunsucker 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 flight, while Brown gave the Lady Blue Hose the deciding fifth point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Meiners at the No. 2 flight.

Catawba 5, Newberry 4
SALISBURY, NC --
Catawba advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 5-4 win over visiting Newberry on Thursday afternoon at Johnson Tennis Center. The third-seeded Lady Indians improve to 14-10 overall and will face Tusculum in one of Saturday’s semifinals at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. Newberry ends its season at 8-11.

Catawba grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins by KT Rebadow and Lauren Fluegge (9-7 at #1) and by Julia McKinzie and Andi Binney (8-6 at #2). Catawba moved within a point of the winning the match as Binney won her singles match at #3 and Rebadow at #4. Newberry would pull even with wins by Bethany Poppe at #5, Brittany Grooms at #6 and by Lauren Hartley at #2. Fluegge earned Catawba the match point with her three-set win at #1 singles.
