Food Lion SAC Tournament
Most Valuable Player

Ashley Green, Wingate University

Wingate University junior pitcher Ashley Green, who pitched four games on Sunday and helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament Championship, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player on Monday.

Green (Charleston, SC/Bishop England HS) went 5-1 in the tournament with a 0.37 ERA and threw two shutouts. She allowed just 17 hits in 38 innings of work, including just three hits in the second championship game to claim the title for the Bulldogs.

Green was one of four Bulldogs named to the All-Tournament Team. Other Wingate representatives included Grace Cunningham, Mandi Chester and Hallie Pettigrew.

Tournament runner-up Lenoir-Rhyne placed two on the All-Tournament Team. Pitcher Casey Hanes and Taylor Queen, who had a game-winning home run against Wingate in the winner's bracket game, made the squad for the Bears.

Newberry, which won three straight games after dropping the tournament opener, also had two representatives. Courtney Lindler and Christina Kirby made the squad for the Lady Indians.

Tusculum College also placed two on the All-Tournament Team after a strong showing in the tournament, knocking out Catawba and Carson-Newman. Nicole Ringwall and Jenica Fernandez were selected for the Pioneers.
