Wingate came out of the loser's bracket to claim the championship of the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament, defeating top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne 8-1 and 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Whitley Field. The 25th-ranked Bulldogs, seeded second, improve to 45-9 and earns the league's automatic bid into NCAA II regional play.

The Carson-Newman Eagles won the 2005 Food Lion South Atlantic Softball Tournament Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 victory over the Presbyterian College Blue Hose in the elimination game of the championship round at Cherry Park. The Blue Hose had defeated the Eagles 4-2 in the first game to force the second contest.

Presbyterian College, which won the 2004 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament title and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA South Atlantic Regional, is the overwhelming favorite to win the 2005 SAC softball title in a poll of the league's eight head coaches. Lenoir-Rhyne College is picked to finish second. Presbyterian placed five players on the Preseason All-Conference team.
