Softball Championship: Wingate Defeats Lenoir-Rhyne Twice to Claim
Crown
Wingate came out of the loser's bracket to claim the championship of
the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament,
defeating top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne 8-1 and 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at
Whitley Field. The 25th-ranked Bulldogs, seeded second, improve to
45-9 and earns the league's automatic bid into NCAA II regional play.

Presbyterian Forces Second Title Game
The Carson-Newman Eagles won the 2005 Food Lion South Atlantic
Softball Tournament Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 victory over the
Presbyterian College Blue Hose in the elimination game of the
championship round at Cherry Park. The Blue Hose had defeated the
Eagles 4-2 in the first game to force the second contest.
